Since 1975

Fifty years on Vimy Ridge Road

Christ Church opened in January 1975 with about thirty people, and it has met on Vimy Ridge Road since 1976.

The story

How the church got here

  1. 1974

A man who thought God was finished with him

George Dudley had been out of church for about seven years. He had been hurt by one, he had walked away, and he did not believe God could use him any more. A friend kept coming by and never gave up on him, because he knew God would never give up on him. George and Joyce started going to church with that friend. In time God called him back to pastor.

  2. January 20, 1975

    The doors open

A building at 12th and Adams in Little Rock was leased for a year. About thirty people came that first Sunday.

  3. 1976

    Building it

After a year the congregation moved to a building on 11th Street while they looked for land. They found three acres on Vimy Ridge Road, southwest of Little Rock, and approved it immediately. They secured a loan from Benton Savings and Loan and started building that summer, with church members doing much of the work themselves. They moved in that November.

  4. 1978

    The Family Life Center

A multi-purpose building that has been in near constant use ever since.

  5. 1980

    The parsonage

Built on the property as a home for the pastors.

  6. 1996

    The sanctuary

Wood frame and brick, with exposed beams and a wood ceiling. It seats up to five hundred, and it is where we still meet.

  7. Today

Then and now

Where the church first met

Before moving to Vimy Ridge Road in 1976, the church met in two buildings in Little Rock: a leased building at 12th and Adams, then a building on 11th Street.

Leadership

Who leads this church

Pastor Sean Dudley leads the church today, alongside the other pastors here. Sean and Lenny Dudley served this congregation for years as youth pastors and both help lead worship. Singing groups and missionaries passing through also minister here from time to time.

Christ Church was founded in 1975 by Pastors George and Joyce Dudley. Pastor George Dudley was called to ministry as a teenager in 1948 and was pastoring by twenty-one. Before Christ Church he did evangelistic work across the country, started a church in Crowell, Texas, and pastored in Scott and North Little Rock. He led this congregation for around forty-five years.

The church is affiliated with the International Ministerial Association.

What we are

A Bible teaching church

We come from a Pentecostal background and we teach the Bible, and nothing else. We love to sing to the glory of God, and we are not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ.

We welcome anyone. Most of the people here are already Christians, and if you would like to give your life to the Lord, we will welcome you with open arms and make you feel at home.

Our full statement of beliefs, with the Scripture behind each part, is on the What We Believe page.
