Romans
Lesson #8

Scripture Reading (Romans chapters 9, 10, 11)

An Overview of these Chapters

Israel is the chosen people of God.

To be a member of Israel means more than racial descent. There has always been a remnant in Israel who were faithful who were called the election.

This selection by God is not unfair, for he has the right to do what he likes.

God did harden the hearts of the Jews, but only to open the door to the Gentiles.

Israel's mistake was seeking after righteousness by the keeping of the law. They failed to understand that the approach to God is by faith, not of works.

The Gentiles must have no pride for they are only wild olives grafted in to the true olive stock. They must remember that.

This is not the end. The Jews will be so moved to envy at the privileges that the Gentiles have received that in the end they will be brought in by them.

So in the end both Jew and Gentile will be brought in to become one man.

Paul speaks from a heart of love to his brethren
(Romans 9:1-6)

The Things That Israel Had

They were the sons of God. (Deut 14: 11-2)

Israel had the Glory. They saw the Glory but yet rejected him.

Israel had the covenants.
    The covenant with Noah
    The covenant with Abraham
    The covenant with Moses
    The covenant in Jesus Christ

Israel had the law. They could never plead ignorance of God's will.

Israel had the worship of the Temple.

Israel had the promises. Israel could never say that it did not know it's destiny.

Israel had the fathers. They had a tradition and a history.

Israel produced the Messiah, the anointed one and yet did not recognize him.
